Hotels · FM · Restaurants · Dubai UAEMarble and ceramic tile floors are the two dominant floor types in Dubai's hotels, restaurants and commercial buildings — and they require completely different cleaning products. Using the wrong product on marble causes permanent, irreversible damage. This guide maps the correct Vileson product to each floor type with the chemistry behind every rule.
Dubai's commercial buildings use more marble than almost any other city in the world — hotel lobbies, restaurant entrances, office reception areas and apartment building foyers are routinely finished in polished marble, travertine and limestone. These surfaces are not just expensive to install — they are permanently damaged by the wrong cleaning product.
Ceramic and porcelain tiles, by contrast, are among the most chemically resistant flooring materials available. They can tolerate both acidic and alkaline cleaners — which is why they are used in commercial kitchens, bathrooms and wet areas where aggressive descaling is periodically necessary.
The core rule: never use the same floor cleaner across both surface types without checking the product pH. An acid-based descaler that delivers excellent results on ceramic tiles can permanently etch a marble floor in a single application.
⚠️ Irreversible damage cost in Dubai: a single application of an acid-based bathroom cleaner or lemon-based descaler on polished marble permanently etches the calcium carbonate surface. Restoration requires professional diamond honing and repolishing at AED 110–295 per square metre. On a hotel lobby of 200 m², that is AED 22,000–59,000 — from one incorrect cleaning product application.
Four floor types are common across UAE commercial buildings. Each has specific product requirements based on its mineral composition and surface treatment.
For floor care across most commercial floor types in Dubai, two Vileson products cover the full requirement. A third is used for periodic descaling on ceramic tile only.

VT-DS-007 Antibacterial Floor Cleaner Marble Tile Dubai UAE Vileson
Safe on: marble, natural stone, ceramic, porcelain, vinyl, LVT, polished concrete. Cleans and disinfects in a single mop cycle. 60 ml per 5L bucket. The primary floor cleaning product for hotels, FM operations and HACCP commercial kitchens. Available 5L and 20L.

VT-GC-001 All Purpose Cleaner Floor Marble Safe Dubai UAE Vileson
Safe on all floor types at 1:20 dilution including marble and natural stone. Use for surface wiping, pre-mop spot treatment and general floor area cleaning. pH-neutral at working concentration. Available 5L and 20L.

VT-GC-003 Bathroom Cleaner Tile Floor Descale Dubai UAE Vileson
Acid-based descaler for ceramic and porcelain tile floors only. Removes UAE hard water (300–500 ppm TDS) limescale deposits from tile surfaces. 3–5 minute dwell. Never use on marble, natural stone, vinyl or grout channels. 1L and 5L.
This is not a matter of product strength or concentration. It is a matter of fundamental chemistry — and understanding it prevents AED 110,000+ in restoration bills.
Marble is calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). Limescale — the white mineral deposit that builds up on taps, tiles and basins in Dubai's hard water — is also calcium carbonate. When you apply an acid-based descaler to a limescale deposit on a ceramic tile, the acid dissolves the calcium carbonate deposit and clears the tile. When you apply the same acid to a marble floor, it dissolves the marble surface in exactly the same way — because they are the same mineral. The polished surface is gone. The damage is permanent. No cleaning product restores etched marble.
| Surface | Chemical composition | Acid reaction | Alkali reaction | Safe pH range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marble | Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) | ✗ Dissolves surface — etches permanently | ⚠ High alkali saponifies sealant | 6.5–8.5 |
| Travertine / Limestone | Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) | ✗ Same as marble — permanent etch | ⚠ Sealant damage | 6.5–8.5 |
| Glazed ceramic tile | Fired clay + silica glaze | ✓ Tolerates periodic acid | ✓ Tolerates alkali | 3–11 |
| Unglazed porcelain | Dense fired clay | ✓ Tolerates acid | ✓ Tolerates alkali | 3–11 |
| Vinyl / LVT | PVC + plasticiser | ⚠ Prolonged acid softens adhesive | ⚠ High alkali clouds wear layer | 5–9 |
| Cement grout | Portland cement (calcium silicate) | ⚠ Dissolves with repeated acid use | ✓ Tolerates alkali | 6–11 |
| Epoxy grout | Epoxy resin | ✓ Excellent acid resistance | ✓ Excellent alkali resistance | 1–14 |
Dubai's tap water TDS of 300–500 ppm means mineral deposits form on all floor surfaces significantly faster than in lower-TDS cities. Understanding how hard water affects each floor type determines your cleaning frequency.
| Floor type | Hard water effect | Frequency required in Dubai | Correct product |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marble lobby | Mineral haze from mop water evaporation — dulls polish over time | Daily neutral mop — wring thoroughly so water does not pool | VT-DS-007 60 ml/5L |
| Ceramic bathroom tile | Limescale on grout lines and tile faces within 3–5 days in high-use bathrooms | Daily neutral mop + weekly acid descale on tiles only | VT-DS-007 daily · VT-GC-003 weekly |
| Kitchen quarry tile | Grease + mineral deposit compound — resists standard cleaning | Daily antibacterial mop — end of every service | VT-DS-007 60 ml/5L |
| Pool deck tile | Heavy calcium carbonate scale from pool splash + evaporation | Weekly acid descale on tile surface, rinse completely | VT-GC-003 3–5 min dwell then rinse |
| Vinyl office floor | Mineral residue from mop — white haze when dry | Daily damp mop — wring to near-dry to prevent residue | VT-DS-007 60 ml/5L |
What is the best floor cleaner for marble in Dubai?
Antibacterial Floor Cleaner (VT-DS-007) at 60 ml per 5L bucket is the correct daily cleaning product for marble floors in Dubai. It is pH-neutral, cleans and disinfects in one step, and is safe on polished marble, travertine, limestone and ceramic. For spot cleaning, All Purpose Cleaner (VT-GC-001) at 1:20 is safe on marble. Never use acid-based bathroom cleaner or any descaler on marble — marble is calcium carbonate and acid dissolves it permanently, causing etching that costs AED 110–295 per square metre to restore professionally.
Can I use the same floor cleaner on marble and ceramic tiles?
For daily mopping yes — Antibacterial Floor Cleaner (VT-DS-007) is safe on both. For periodic descaling no — Bathroom Cleaner (VT-GC-003) is effective on ceramic tiles for limescale but must never be used on adjacent or nearby marble. In mixed-floor environments, use only pH-neutral products for all daily mopping and limit acid descaling to ceramic-only areas with clear physical separation from marble surfaces.
How often should marble floors in Dubai hotels be cleaned?
Dry-mop daily to remove dust and grit — abrasive particles scratch polished marble. Wet-mop with pH-neutral Antibacterial Floor Cleaner at 60 ml per 5L at least twice daily in high-traffic lobby areas. Wring the mop thoroughly — standing water on marble in Dubai's hard water conditions deposits mineral residue as it evaporates, dulling the polish over time. Never allow acidic cleaners or strong alkali products near marble.
What floor cleaning chemicals are required for HACCP in commercial kitchens in Dubai?
HACCP-compliant kitchen floor cleaning in Dubai requires an antibacterial cleaner with a verified bactericidal claim, Arabic and English SDS on-site, and documentation of each cleaning cycle. Antibacterial Floor Cleaner (VT-DS-007) at 60 ml per 5L meets all three requirements. A separate mop colour for kitchen floors (versus public areas) is required under colour-coded hygiene protocols. SDS and COA must be available for Dubai Municipality and ADAFSA inspection.
What damages marble and tile floors in Dubai commercial buildings?
Acid-based cleaners on marble permanently etch the calcium carbonate surface. High-alkaline products saponify marble sealants. Standing mop water on marble promotes efflorescence (mineral salt migration) from within the stone. Abrasive pads on polished marble remove the polish layer. Prolonged acid use on ceramic grout dissolves the cement grout. Standing water on vinyl LVT lifts adhesive at tile edges. Bleach on stainless steel lift-entrance trims causes pitting corrosion.
